Intraocular Lens (IOL) Implantation

An IOL is an artificial lens implanted inside the eye to replace the natural lens, correcting vision problems such as cataracts, presbyopia, and refractive errors. It helps patients see clearly without relying heavily on glasses or contact lenses.

Types of IOLs:

• Monofocal lenses: Correct vision at a single distance, typically for distance vision
• Multifocal lenses: Provide clear vision at near, intermediate, and far distances
• Toric lenses: Correct astigmatism along with near or distance vision
• Accommodative/presbyopia-correcting lenses: Adjust focus automatically for multiple distances

Signs and Symptoms That May Indicate IOL Implantation:

• Cloudy or blurry vision due to cataracts
• Difficulty seeing near or far objects
• Frequent changes in eyeglass prescription
• Glare or halos around lights
• Dependence on multifocal or progressive glasses
